Weddings are already stressful, but when you add in a world coming out of a pandemic and a wedding destination that seems further and further away due to unforeseen setbacks and delays, it adds a whole other layer of anxiety.
This is the situation author Anna Saldivar Turpin, and her fiancé faced as they traveled to their wedding in Hawaii.
Overview
Genre: Memoir
Anna and fiancé Keith got in engaged in 2020 while the world was in chaos. A year later, as the world was slowly returning to normal, they began planning a destination wedding in Hawaii with just a few friends and family members.
But what was supposed to be a simple trip turned into an endless journey to finally saying “I do”.
My Thoughts on Delays, Detours, And “I Do”
I enjoyed the story and I definitely felt for Anna and Keith as they dealt with so many setbacks in their journey. Their perseverance was admirable.
I wish more time was spent getting to know both of them and their relationship. There is so much history there, that I think would have been interesting to see more of a deep dive into it.
The pacing was fairly quick which kept me engaged in the story and made it an easy read.
Turpin has a strong voice that resonates throughout the book. She lets her humor shine through in each chapter which elevates the story.
I love that Turpin shared pictures of her and Keith’s adventure throughout the book as it made the story come alive.
Final Thoughts and Rating
Overall, I liked the story. Delays, Detours, And “I Do” is a good reminder to persevere and not ever give up.
My Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars
