As this year draws to a close, most readers are setting new challenges and goals for themselves. One of the most common challenges is finishing your TBR. But staring at a stack of books the size of Big Ben trying to figure out what to read next does not accomplish that goal.
This why so many members of the book community have started TBR jars to help tackle this tower in a less stressful way.
Keep reading for instructions on making your own TBR Jar.
Supplies:
- A Sturdy Glass or Plastic Jar (I used a wide mouth Mason jar. Make sure that it’s large enough for you to fit your hand into it.)
- Slips of Paper in Any Color You Wish
- Pen
- Decorations (Tags, Stickers, Paint Markers, etc.) (Optional)
Making Your TBR Jar
Step 1- Decorate Your Jar
This is your jar, you can make it as fancy or plain as you want. I decorated my with tags from the craft store that I colored on.
Step 2- Write Your Prompts
Your prompts should reflect you and your bookshelf. Don’t put prompts in your jar that you can’t actually use. If you need a few ideas for prompts, check out this post.
You can also just put the titles of books on your TBR in your jar instead.
Step 3- Try It Out
Shake up your prompts and pull out one out. Choose a book based on that prompt. Continue until you have the desired number of books.
Step 4- Share Your Jar On Social Media
This is an optional step, but if you’re comfortable with it, share you jar on social media. You can even tag me on Instagram @cstingerwriter if you followed this tutorial to make your jar.
Additional Tips and Tricks For Your TBR Jar
- Only add as many books to your TBR as you can handle.
- Most people pull out TBR prompts monthly, but you can do it as often as you like.
- If you don’t currently have a book that goes with a prompt, it okay to pick a different one.
