Swipe Up For More!
Influencers are a huge part of our daily lives from mommy bloggers who share parenting tips and family events to beauty influencers who talk about their skincare routines, we’ve all been influenced in some way.
In Swipe Up For More, journalist Stephanie McNeal pulls back the curtain on the people who fill our lives and social media feeds.
Overview
From the early 2010’s ’til now, the industry of social media has become a multi-billion dollar machine. The creators on these platforms collectively called influencers, bringing in millions with their platforms.
But what really goes on behind the camera? Are influencers actually as perfect as they appear?
My Thoughts on Swipe Up For More
Swipe Up For More is an interesting look the social media and influencer industries.
McNeal covers almost every single aspect of influencer life, even going back to the beginning of influencing. The book predominately focuses on three different influencers, but she often talks about others as well.
As a blogger myself, I enjoyed getting to see the real people behind the blogs and social media accounts.
This book does tend to take a pro-influencer stance and often makes a case of why they are important. However, McNeal also talks about some of the controversies that have happened in the influencer community over the past several years.
One of the most interesting aspects of Swipe Up For More was the struggles that influencers often face as public figures, from not posting political messages to be ridiculed for not having “real jobs”. I found this fascinating because so much weight is put on what influencers say and do.
Final Thoughts and Rating
I loved the peek behind the curtain that Swipe Up For More gave. I would recommend this book for anyone who wants to become an influencer or is fascinated by the industry.
