I was scrolling through Instagram the other day and I came across The Last Book Challenge where readers are coming up with six “last” books. I thought it looked like fun so I decided to do it on here.
(I’m not sure who started this challenge. If you do, please let me know in the comments.)
Let’s get started.
The Last Book I Bought
My Pick: Churchill’s Secret Messenger- Alan Hlad
In World War II London, Rose Teasdale started out as just a typist working on confidential documents, but when it’s discovered that she is fluent in French, she is recruited to the Special Operations Executive and sent on a dangerous mission.
The Last Book I Reviewed
My Pick: Debutante Hill– Lois Duncan
High school senior Lynn Chambers is the most popular girl in Rivertown. But when debutante season comes to her small town, her father forbids her to participate. Now on the outside for the first time in her life, she discovers who she is and who her true friends are.

The Last Book I Gifted
My Pick: The Whipping Boy- Sid Fleischman
Jimmy is the whipping boy for a spoiled prince in a kingdom where punishing the heir to the throne is illegal. But when both Jimmy and the prince are kidnapped, they must work together to get home.
I gave this one to my friend several months ago who hadn’t ever read it. It’s a super short book, but it’s hilarious.
The Last Book I Started
My Pick: The First Ladies- Marie Benedict and Victoria Christopher Murray
This book tells the story of Eleanor Roosevelt and Mary McLeod Bethune. Two women from different background who form an unlikely friendship based on shared beliefs about equality and women’s rights.
The Last Book I Finished
My Pick: Dear Mrs. Bird- AJ Pearce
In 1941 London, Emmy Lake dreams of becoming a war correspondent. But when a misunderstanding land her a job as a typist at women’s magazine instead of a newspaper, she finds herself working for Mrs. Bird who refuses to publish anything with “unpleasantness”. When Emmy realizes how many women write in for help and don’t get it, she begins answering herself.
I loved this book, and I’m planning on doing a review of it soon.
The Last Book I Added To My TBR
My Pick: Prisoner of Night and Fog- Anne Blankman
Gretchen grew up in the Nazi inner circle under the wing of “Uncle Dolf”. But when she meets a Jewish reporter, everything she’s ever known falls apart.
This is actually re-read that I decided to put on my November TBR. I absolutely love this book.
