This book tag is all about bringing together old and new books. Because both have value. Both are important. And both are absolutely incredible!
The Oldest Book On Your Shelf By Publication Date.
The Princess by Lord Alfred Tennyson. My copy was published in 1892.
The Bible is also really old.
The Newest Book On Your Shelf By Publication Date.
The Final Gambit by Jennifer Lynn Barnes. It was published in August of 2022.
What Is Title of The First Book You Ever Bought?
I think it was Ramona Quimby Age 8 by Beverly Cleary. The Ramona books were some of my favorites when I was a kid.
What Is The Title of The Last Book You Bought?
Trixie Belden Book 1: The Secret of The Mansion. I decided to give it shot because the synopsis remined me of the old Nancy Drew books.
What’s A Classic That You Love?
I have several that I love. Some of my favorites include Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery, A Study in Scarlet by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Johnny Tremain by Esther Forbes, Rifles for Watie by Harold Keith, and Around The World in 80 Days by Jules Verne.
What’s A New Book, (Within The Last 20 Years), That You Love?
Off the top of my head, Radar Girls by Sara Ackerman, The Last Thing He Told Me by Laura Dave, The Help by Kathryn Stockett, Prisoner of Night and Fog by Anne Blankman, and The Disappearance of Sloane Sullivan by Gia Cribbs.
Name A Older Book That You Think Couldn’t Be Written Today.
I think many famous classics would not necessarily do as well if published today. Because as society moves and grows, certain topics become less acceptable to talk about.
All of the classics were written in a different time with different values and expectations, so they may not resonate as well if published today.
Name A Newer Book That Couldn’t Have Been Written In The Past.
Pretty much any book consider YA. Most of YA literature these days would be considered scandalous 40 or 50 years ago.
Name A Book That Was Written Before You Were Born.
The Merry Adventures of Robin Hood by Howard Pyle. This book was published long before I was born, but it’s a classic.
Name A Book That Was Released The Year You Were Born.
Sisterhood of The Traveling Pants by Ann Brashares. (Extra Credit: Do the math to figure out how old I am.)
Final Thoughts
There are things we can learn both from books published a year ago and others published long before that.
The value of these stories is much greater than most of us could even imagine.
