The Timeless series by Gabrielle Meyer is taking the Christian bookish community by storm. This historical fiction series with twists of time travel and faith has been a huge conversation piece since the release of the first book in 2022.
Originally, the series was only supposed to consist of three books, but feedback from fans of the series caused an increase to seven.
Let’s get into what makes the Timeless series so special.
Series Overview
The Timeless series follows a family who have the unique gift of living simultaneously in two timelines. Each day when they fall asleep they wake up in the next time. While this may sound a little confusing, Meyer actually makes it super easy to understand and enjoy.
Book 1: When The Day Comes
Twenty year old Libby has a unique gift, she lives in both 1774 and 1914. Each night when she goes to sleep she wakes up in the other timeline. On her twenty-first birthday she’ll have to choose which timeline she wants to live in.
In 1774 she is the owner of a newspaper in Williamsburg, Virginia on the precipice of the Revolutionary War. In 1914 she is the daughter of a wealthy American businessman and a scheming mother who wants to marry her into the British aristocracy.
Libby thinks she knows where she wants to stay, but as things in both times begin to complicate, she must make a choice that could rip apart everything she thought she wanted.
Book 2: In This Moment
The second book in the Timeless series follows Maggie who lives in three timelines: 1861, 1941, and 2001.
In all three her love of practicing medicine fuels her.
But on her 21st birthday she will have to choose which timeline to stay in.
With people she loves in all three, how will she choose?
Book 3: For A Lifetime
Identical twin sisters Hope and Grace live in two different timelines. Each night when they fall asleep, they wake up in the other timeline.
In 1692 they work in their widowed father’s tavern just outside of Salem as the witch trials begin to kick off.
In 1912, headstrong Hope is a pilot hoping to become a pioneer in aviation. Grace is a reporter for The New York Globe exposing corruption.
On their 25th birthday, they will have to choose which timeline they want to stay in. While they both know which timeline they want to stay in, the people in both places pull them in many directions. How will they make the decision? And will they stay together For A Lifetime?
Reasons To Read The Timeless Series:
1. Faith-Filled Fiction
The Timeless series is a Christian series that injects faith into each book. Meyer doesn’t force faith into each book, but instead lets it naturally develop in each story.
2. No Spice
I love how despite the fact that this series is known for it’s romantic subplots, there is absolutely no spice to be found. (The first book does have an off-screen rape, but there aren’t details.)
3. Exceptional Storytelling
Meyer is a master storyteller. Each book in the Timeless series features engaging plot full of intrigue, hope, and adventure.
4. Beautiful Historical Settings
The settings in each book are beautifully researched. From colonial Williamsburg to World War II Hawaii, Meyer covers so many different time periods each with a unique and beautiful touch.
(I will say, out of the three books that are currently available, Colonial Williamsburg was my absolute favorite setting.)
5. Lovable Characters
Meyer writes character that feel real and honest. I love how all over women in her books have their own personalities and values that make each book special.
Final Thoughts
The Timeless series is truly a gem. If you’ve been thinking about trying it, I would definitely recommend it.
