A Genuine Inquiry: The 20 Questions Book Tag

I’ve seen this tag a couple times in the past few months I’ve seen this book tag in a few places and I thought it sounded fun. I don’t who the original creator is, but I found it on Reading Ladies Book Club.

1. How Many Books Are Too Many Books In A Series?

I think it depends on the series. If the story takes 20 books to come to a satisfying end then that is great. However, if the author is putting out books for a series that already had a great conclusion just to make more money, I won’t be a happy camper.

2. How Do You Feel About Cliffhangers

If an author ends a series or stand-alone with an unresolved cliffhanger, I get really frustrated because there’s not another book to pick up to find out what happened.

If there’s a good cliffhanger at the end of a continuing series, I actually enjoy it as long as the next book is already out.

3. Hardback Or Paperback?

I like both. I’m not a big fan of mass-market paperbacks, but I have some of those too.

4. What’s Your Favorite Book?

Besides The Bible, I would have to say The Help by Kathryn Stockett. I first read it almost three years ago, and it was breathtaking.

5. What’s Your Least Favorite Book?

Well I have a couple. The first one is Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein. I was actually really sad that I hated this book, because it sounded right up my alley.

The second one is Don’t Look Back by Jennifer L. Armentrout. I usually like mysteries, but this one didn’t do it for me. I figured out who the bad guy was only a few chapters in and ruined it for me.

6. Do Like Love Triangles?

Not particularly. I feel like a lot of times they actually detract from the story instead of adding to it. Plus the two people vying for the character’s attention act like jerks 9 times out of 10.

7. What’s The Most Recent Book You Just Couldn’t Finish?

The Vanishing Year by Kate Moretti. I was enjoying it at first, but as the book went on, there was so much substance abuse that I couldn’t finish it.

8. What Book Are You Currently Reading?

Right now I’m reading The Diamond Eye by Kate Quinn. So far, I love it. I hope it stays good.

9. What Is The Last Book You Recommended To Someone?

I think the last book I recommended was Inherit Midnight by Kate Kae Myers to my sister. My family laughs because when someone asks what they should read, I come running with an armful of books.

10. What Is The Oldest Book You’ve Ever Read?

The Bible. It’s been around quite awhile.

11. What Is The Newest Book You’ve Read?

The newest book I’ve read by publication date is A Girl Called Samson by Amy Harmon. It was published April 1st, 2023.

12. Who Is Your Favorite Author?

My favorite authors are Ally Carter and Ruta Sepetys.

13. Do You Prefer To Buy Books Or Borrow Them?

I do both pretty frequently. I go to the library weekly, but I also buy books. Generally, I buy books that I already know I like, but I will buy books that I haven’t read if they aren’t too expensive.

14. What’s A Book That You Dislike That Everyone Else Seems To Love?

Anything by John Green. I’ve tried to like his books and I just can’t. The characters, the writing, it’s just not for me.

15. Do You Prefer Bookmarks or Dogears?

Bookmarks! Please don’t dogear your books. It’s not fair to the poor darlings.

16. Name A Book You Can Always Re-read.

I can always re-read Written In The Stars by Lois Duncan. It’s a collection of short stories that she wrote as a teenager and they are amazing.

17. Can You Read While Listening To Music?

I don’t ever turn on music specifically to read, but if there’s music or a TV on, it’s not a big deal. As I mentioned in a previous book tag, if I didn’t learn to read with distractions, I would never finish a book.

18. Do You Prefer One Point Of View Or Multiple Points Of View?

It depends on the story, how the points of view are differentiated, and if it’s done well.

There was one book that I read that featured multiple POVs and the only way to tell who’s perspective the chapter was from was each character had a different font when it was their perspective. This didn’t work very well because the fonts all looked very similar and there were like eight POV characters. Needless to say, if you’re going to write a book with multiple POVs, don’t do it like that.

19. Do You Binge Read Books Or Do Prefer To Read A Book Over The Course Of Several Days?

I haven’t binge read a book in a very long time. I tend to take a few days to a week to finish a book depending on how long it is and how much I’m enjoying it.

20. Who Would You Like To Tag?

I would like to tag anyone who wants to do this tag.
